The construction of a massive new terminal at Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, West Bengal, is set to be completed by March 2027.

According to Mohammad Arif, Airport Director of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the first phase of the terminal will cover around 70,400 square meters, with an additional 50,000 square meters planned for the second phase.
"A new terminal building is under construction, while the existing airport will remain operational. We aim to meet the project deadline by March 2027. The total cost is estimated at Rs 1,560 crore, with tenders being awarded in two phases. The second phase will focus on airside infrastructure," Arif stated, as reported by ANI.
Darjeeling BJP MP Raju Bista expressed enthusiasm for the development, highlighting that the new terminal will be ten times the size of the current one.
“I extend my congratulations to the government for approving the new terminal. Rs 16 crore has been allocated for the project, and the terminal will be significantly larger than the present one. This expansion is expected to enhance the frequency of both international and domestic flights,” Bista remarked.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project on October 20 last year.
In August 2024, the Union Cabinet approved the development of a new civil enclave at Bagdogra Airport.
With an investment exceeding Rs 1,500 crore, the New Civil Enclave will feature a 70,390 square meter terminal, designed to handle 3,000 Peak Hour Passengers (PHP) and an annual passenger capacity of 10 million.
The project also includes an apron with 10 parking bays for A-321 type aircraft, two link taxiways, and a multi-level car parking facility.
The terminal is being developed as a green building, incorporating renewable energy sources and maximizing natural light for sustainability.
